HAVE YOU BEEN FOOLED BY CARPET STEAM CLEANERS?

Long ago I was fooled into buying a steam cleaner that I saw on an infomercial. It wasn’t one of the more expensive ones like the Vapamore dry steam vapor cleaner and maybe that was the problem. Maybe I needed to buy one that cost more rather than find one of the cheaper ones. Anyway, it looked so cool being able to steam clean anything with high heat that would almost instantly get rid of the dirt, stains and anything else. Not only would the steam cleaner get rid of the filth but it would sanitize as well.

I didn’t buy off the infomercial but went right to Ebay to see if I could get the unit a bit cheaper. There were lots of carpet steam cleaners to choose from and sure enough, the one on TV could be delivered from and Ebay seller for less than on television. I pulled the trigger and bought the unit and eagerly awaited it’s arrival.

Needless to say at this point the experiance was a total let down. It seems these infomercials make the product seems as if it works better than it does in real life. Can you imagine that? My unit did puff some steam but it never really was hot enough to do the job it was supposed to do. I kept trying for a while thinking I was doing something wrong but after several weeks I gave up. I had had enough of my carpet steam cleaner and I packaged it up and sold it to someone else on Ebay. I was truthful in my ad so I didn’t get as much as I might have had I bent the truth a little.

Carpet steam cleaners started coming on to the scene about 90 years ago but they have a bigger following in Europe. They have many uses but the main thing is that they get your carpet much cleaner than an ordinary vacuum will. The main advantage of a steam cleaner that works right is that it sanitizes the carpet rather than just removing the surface dust.

You shouldn’t use carpet steam cleaners on all carpet or rugs though. Wool area rugs for instance, should not be cleaned with hot steam or water as they can be damaged. For a wool rug and fragile rugs, you should put most of your effort into vacuuming then regularly and then carefully hand washing them when needed. You also wouldn’t want to use steam cleaning on something like a Cashmere white rug as it might damage it.

Homeowners with pets might be especially interested in steam carpet cleaners because of all the dirt that comes from the cats or dogs. If you look around on the Internet, you can probably find a cheaper price for carpet steam cleaners than you will get if you go down to your local Sears. Just a little effort on your part will get you the better price and sometimes free shipping with no tax.
